Their true colours

New heights for anti-Catholicism in America

They're not just anti-religion. First and foremost they're anti-Catholicism...

Wednesday, March 07, 2012

You're not allowed

to talk about religion privately if someone else can hear you.

Irony: Bar boots Denver bishop giving private talk on threats to religious liberty

The general public reaction to religion today, outside of glass cathedrals and churches, or when it has something to do with an athlete, is disdain, mockery and jeering. People make fun of religion (though spending time in bars trying to make themselves happy??).

They should call these events 'mockery on tap' given the response of other patrons...

We have it so good here

Christian Civilians in Burma Face Deadly Attacks

Lord, have mercy on them and protect them! They need our prayers, and our intervention through our politicians...

I will never understand

what motivates people to do things like this...

Pagan stone circle may have been destroyed in religous hate attack

"Police are probing the destruction of a Pagan stone circle in a possible religious hate attack."

(...and why do newspaper editors follow a headline with a quotation or comment that expresses almost word-for-word what the headline did...)

Sure

Koran pastor 'not responsible' for UN deaths in Afghanistan

"Thousands of protesters in northern Afghanistan, enraged over news that an American Christian preacher had overseen a torching of the Koran, stormed a United Nations compound, killing at least seven UN staff."
Of course he's not responsible. He wouldn't think he was in any case. In the minds of a lot of people in the world he's wrong, though, just as he was wrong in the first place to burn the book.

I like this

What it really talks about is part of the last acceptable prejudice, not just against Catholics, but against Christians. I'm not sure of the provenance, or if the story is just an internet joke, but the sentiment is real...

"BY A 15 yr. OLD SCHOOL KID who got an A+ for this entry

Since the Pledge of Allegiance And The Lord's Prayer Are not allowed in most Public schools anymore because the word 'God' is mentioned..... A kid in Arizona wrote the attached NEW School prayer:

"New Pledge of Allegiance"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene..
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all..
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks...
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles..
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen"
Peaceful protest
On this date in 1960, 4 black college students sat at a Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro, NC, knowing that they wouldn't be served. This came to be known as the start of the
Greensboro Sit-In.
Each generation has their moments to be remembered. This is an incredibly important one in the history of the United States...
I'm embarrassed
The Internet
In this case I'm both embarrassed to be a Christian with people like this calling themselves Christian, and I'm embarrassed to be a target shooter because, well, just because of these folk. These Christian Taliban ruin everything!
A friend of SWMBO's
married a Morrocan man while she was studying theology in a Baptist seminary.
Morocco Continues to Purge Nation of Foreign Christians
There was some thought that she might have gone to Morroco with her husband to live. I hope that's not the case, and if it is, that she's safe...
Is this
what the average tea-partyer is like?
Outside a Tea Party: Mongrel politics and an American mind.
S. really has it figured out. I'm just in awe of the twists and turns his mind takes to explain... well, his beliefs, I guess. I was almost out of breath just reading his interview...
Their position doesn't seem too defensible...
Other Mother Teresa birthday plans on offer after Empire State Building refusal
I guess it will pay to watch who they light it up for in the future. Still, if you honour one birthday this way, will they want to honour her birthday every year this way? I mean, 100 is a big deal, but it's the anniversary of her birth, not the celebration of a birthday. In case the people missed it, she died in 1997. (And I meant all this with the greatest respect. I have much admiration and respect for this holy saint...)
Well, you know...
...as impolite as it may seem, there's something positive about standing up and saying that people can't get away with being prejudiced and bigoted against Christianity, any more than you can with doing it to Islam or Judaism...
Religious supergroup forms to smite Comedy Central's Jesus Christ project
It's not like they're threatening to kill the writers, massacre their families, raise their land and salt the earth where they lived or anything. They'll still be polite, but someone has to point out the double standard that these people operate under. I'm OK with a protest...
I keep waiting
to hear the voices of the Muslims, liberals and conservatives in our countries loudly screaming about the bigotry, prejudice and hypocrisy of these actions by Muslims and Islamists...
Shari’a court consents to destruction of churches in northern Nigeria
I wait in vain. But when someone wants to outlaw full face coverings in the interest of public safety in our own countries, both liberals and conservatives have loud and vigorous opinions. As does the Muslim community...
Amen!
One thing I will really be happy about...
Alas, once all the possible 'proofs' are gone for this interpretation, there will be another one. People live for this sort of thing...
Saturday, May 08, 2010
Well, not exactly
Comedy Central 'delights in bashing Christians,' charges Bill Donohue
I think ALL comedians, not just those on Comedy Central, like to take swipes at the Catholic Church. We don't fight back. We're news, and we're safe.
And I don't think that Mr. Donahue is thinking correctly when he wonders if Muslims might take offence at people depicting one of their prophets (Jesus) in a bad way. They only seem to care about one prophet. They don't even seem to get upset if people aren't to respectful to God. Just the Mohammed. I think Mr. Donahue is just trying to stir something up...
Along with the Jews,
the Catholic Church is history's whipping boy...
Anti-Catholicism, Again: The permanent scandal of the Vatican.
I've been active in the Catholic Church all my life, from a young boy as an Altar Boy to an adult as Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council and member of the Diocesan Deanery. I have never been abused by a Catholic priest. Furhter, I might add, I know many, many Catholics, from many, many places the world over, and I have yet to meet one who has been abused by a priest. I'm not saying that they don't exist. I'm just saying that the emphasis is wrong. It's much like the infamous 'burning times'. If the number of women who were killed by authorities as witches during those years are as high as is often claimed, the populaton of Europe would have been decimated...
This makes sense
India State Jails Evangelists, Police, For Converting Hindus
It's always good to jail the victims, I suppose. That way you don't have to deal with the violent extremists...
Thursday, April 22, 2010
Hmmm...
Group wants evangelist's Pentagon event canceled
His opinions don't match theirs so they don't want him to speak. They don't want to offend people. Also, like most of the world, they're likely frightened that offending Muslims will just cause the Islamists to behave violently. The bully has the rest of the world cowed...
