What is it

with the hierarchy of the various groups in the Catholic Church?

Vowing change, Legion head admits he knew of US priest's transgressions

During the whole dust-up over the behaviour of their founder and leader this priest already knew about the transgressions of this other priest and did nothing of consequence about it until it became public! Has all this talk of change been for nothing? Now he starts talking change?

I'm beginning to think that the rot in the Legion has progressed quite some way down from the top, and while I at one time thought they needed time and correct direction from Rome, I'm now thinking that it's too little, too late. Perhaps the Legionary priests in good standing need to be assigned to various parishes as diocesan priests and the Legion shut down for good...

Have the files on these 7 priests been given to the secular authorities? These weren't just possible crimes against the Church, but against people. Is the Vatican still not aware of the proper way to deal with these things, out and in the open? Can they be so dense?

and the media seem to have taken a 'guilty until proven innocent' position (or, rather, a 'guilty even after proven innocent' position) on this issue.

It's a proof that the internet has had a real and significant effect on the way Scientology operates that someone is charging a high-ranking member publicly. It's a good thing.

I'ved always personally felt that the Church's response to accusations (Pope Benedict's response to the abuse crisis), by it's very process, leads people to presume guilt without proof, and even if a priest is found innocent, it destroys them in the eyes of the public forever.

I don't know about him myself, I tend to favour the Fulton Sheen public approach to the Corapi public approach, the Sheen technique was persuasive because of kindness, gentleness and intelligence rather than Corapi's persuasiveness by intelligence and assertiveness, but there's one really good thing said by Ms. Scalia in her article:

"What we do know: Old Scratch has his hand in all of this, because — whatever the real story is — someone is lying, so the Father of Lies must be a part of it, in any case. And it’s Lent."

Amen. Please pray for the Church...

I hope that those in other positions of authority - police, education, media, etc. - take note of what is happening in the Catholic Church, by both haters and media. Eventually they will turn on them, as well. Once their hatred of the Catholic Church is sated, if ever that occurs...

Controversial Que. cardinal promoted to Rome

Some group said he had refused to apologize? Where? When? What was the context? Is this what makes the CBC include 'controversial' in the headline?

Alas, I fear that none of these groups will ever be satisfied, despite their claims to the contrary, until all Catholic priests are publicly beheaded in the village square and all the assets of the Catholic church sold off and split between anyone who has claimed abuse. Oh, and all the Catholic nuns in the world are hung, as well, 'cus we all know how terrible and evil they are!

Not to minimize any true suffering, but 'Bah! Humbug!'.
