I'm not surprised

Most Americans say media coverage

It had to happen

Hornady, a manufacturer of firearm ammunition, is riding the wave of the zombie craze with their new Zombie Max ammunition in various calibres, "just in case".

As someone who has always been interested in the zombie genre (along with vampires, werewolves and mummies - the traditional horror genres) even before the current zombie craze took hold, I have to laugh and be amused at this, and the various commercials for them (check YouTube to see them). (Serious adult hat on) As a person interested in shooting, and a responsible member of the public, I do think that making these things seem real, even in a tongue-in-cheek manner, isn't a great idea. There are too many people out in The Real World (TRW) who are too easily influenced by social memes, and too many, shall we say 'close to the edge' people who are just looking for some sign of the impending collapse of society, and others who already truly believe in zombies, that this may send them over the edge. I know, it's a tempest in a teapot really and I shouldn't be taking it seriously, but if even one innocent person gets hurt it's one person too many. And the serious-minded anti-gun folk are always looking for another reason to hate guns and want them banned.(Serious adult hat off)

But it's still quite funny, really...

Arghhhh!

All the Biblical literacy that’s fit to print

This is a very good website, one which has the position that the media doesn't really 'get religion'...

So,

when you become a right-wing commmentator on an insanely conservative television network, do you really get to re-create words and objects to be different things than what they are?

Megyn Kelly Calls Pepper Spray a ‘Food Product, Essentially’

So they weren't really trying to hurt those non-violent protestors, they were treating them to complimentary condiments. That's it! That's the ticket!

He has a very good point

Press Distorts Papal Trip Before It Begins

The media is predicting the Pope's reception in the various countries, and perhaps more creating a response than reporting a response.
" So begins the news coverage prior to the Pope’s trip. I don’t have a problem with journalists reporting facts, but when they’re reporting (or rather predicting) facts before anything has even happened, I do take issue with the reporting. Isn’t it interesting how you can have so many seemingly diverse publications all singing the same note"

MSNBC Host Blasts GOP Presidential Candidates' Show of 'Cheap' Christianity

Politicians who claim to be Christian but belong to the 'keep 'em safe until they're born, then let them live or die as they see fit' school of politics need to be taken to task and blasted once in a while for their hypocrisy. They won't change, but the world needs to see it.

An article

about the same ossuary I've already posted about, but with a completely misleading headline:

2,000-Year-Old Biblical Burial Box Reveals Clue About Death of Jesus

It really reveals no clues about the death of Jesus. It may have nothing to do with any individuals involved in the death of Jesus.

Ah, the media...

So much for paying any attention

to anything Christie Blatchford writes again.

Layton’s death reveals the good, the bad and the ugly online

Jack Layton wasn't a saint, but he tried publicly to do a lot more for Canada than Christie Blatchford has, and now to have it suggested that she's just whoring for web traffic, well, obviously she's fitting in with the new face of web journalism - web hits, not content. Jack Layton is getting a 15-gun salute, and the Dominion Carillonneur will be playing O Canada on the Tower bells, when his casket is taken from the House of Commons. I think a modicum of respect is owed toward a person who the country feels this strongly about, and media sniping and trashing should just take a rest for a moment.

So long, Ms. Blatchford.

The media are doing this for some reason...

John Baglow: In defence of Nycole Turmel, staunch federalist

I'd have to ask why. Is it a slow day in the newsroom? Why not pick on certain members of the governing party who were members of the Alliance, way back when when part of its published mandate was to separate the West from the rest of Canada? Gee, that makes those conservative types separatists, too. Really, I think it's a Conservative issue, being done to make the opposition look bad. The Conservatives have never bothered to do anything they can, underhanded or not, to destroy the credibility of their opposition. Which other party runs attack ads during their whole term in office?

Making dishonesty truth

It's called 'media', and people lap it up as truth no matter what is said.

WorldNetDaily, Salon, and the Creation of Fact

Free countries might criticize government media control and disinformation in some 'non-free' countries, but at least it is visible there. Here it is done in a way that we don't see unless we have 'investigative journalists' of our own. The easiest thing to do is not believe any of them.

Media scrum may one day take on a new meaning...

Ron Reagan: My Father Had More In Common With Obama Than Sarah Palin

This is a symptom

of something deeply wrong with our society...

Tony Blair 'deeply and profoundly regrets' Iraq dead

Another public inquiry.

I have nothing against them when they're required, but how often are they really required? There's one going on where I am right now about 4 police officers who were killed by a man who was then killed by the police. The public inquiry will likely uncover the various facts that are interesting, but useless in the aftermath. The police should investigate it, true, as they need to find out what went wrong, but a public inquiry that is costing taxpayers millions of dollars? There was an inquiry after a wrongful conviction here that resulted in one person being freed and another convicted of the crime. Then the new person convicted wanted another inquiry, and I was fearful that he'd get it.

It's one thing to be open and transparent with the public. It's another to seek to constantly ascribe blame, and that's what seems to be the real reason for these inquiries. It seems to be driven by the same thing that causes media and opposition politicians to search for scandal in a poltiical opponent's life rather than focus on what's happening politically. Why bother arguing policy when you can disgrace the opponent?

There's something wrong with this...

Sin has always been the problem

"Sin within the Church" threat to Catholicism: Pope Benedict

It does threaten the Church corporately, though.

Sin has always been the problem, but today, holding only a moral sway over the people, if the church isn't behaving in a moral way, why should people pay attention to it? That's the issue. 'Do what I say, not what I do' doesn't work in our modern world. However, having said that, the Church recognizes that sin exists within it, but I think there really is an attempt by some people to smear the Catholic Church in any way they can to make whatever point they're bent on making...

Fair question

Does Catholic celibacy contribute to child sex abuse?

"With the Roman Catholic Church facing a series of paedophilia scandals, some observers have begun to ask whether the tradition of celibacy in the priesthood has contributed to child abuse. The BBC's Paul Henley raises the question with Catholics in Cologne."
Similarly, does teaching contribute to child sex abuse? Does being a member of the general population contribute to child sex abuse? Seeing as the rate of child sex abuse is the same, or higher, in these areas, as well as others, these, too, are fair questions.

Does the practice of journalism contribute to muck-raking and smear campaigns? Another fair question. Just asking...
