Heh.

When Is Religion a Religion? Canada's Rights Laws Continue to Astound

While I'm sure some Atheists will be happy to be considered on a par with organized religions, others will be dismayed that their beliefs are lumped in with other groups that are considered being based on 'faith'. I'll just capitalize the words 'Atheist' and 'Atheism' for now...

It's done?

Atheism vs Religion: The Final Countdown?

Is it all over, then? Are those of faith finished? Will atheism deal the final blow?

Nah.

An instance

in which a group is making a major issue out of something that isn't a major issue, and making accusations about things that have already been adequately answered.

This article:

Group calls for exorcism inquiry after Saskatoon incident

followed this one:

Sprinkling Holy Water Not Exorcism, Bishop Says

You'll recognize the group if you see them. They're the ones standing there with their fingers in their ears shrieking loudly "Medieval abuse! Stuck in the middle ages! Science uber alles! These people are luddites! The Catholic Church is evil! There is no God!" and renting bus signs saying the same thing.

You know, the new athiests...

Their true colours

New heights for anti-Catholicism in America

They're not just anti-religion. First and foremost they're anti-Catholicism...

I decided some time ago that,

while Homer has some remarkable flashes of insight, I can't pattern my life after what he states.

Struggling with the question of belief? Homer Simpson's got the answer

"The Springfield philosopher shows us that the issue of God's existence or non-existence is of little importance"
I'm sure that neither he, nor his creators, are great philosphers, brilliant comedians though they are...

The argument never ends

Atheist Group Takes Down Billboard With Inaccurate Anti-Christian Jefferson Quote

Sometimes we latch onto things that were never said in our zeal to be supported by someone with some sort of historical authority.

There's a couple of good comments to the article. RETIREDCHIEF says "Truly amazing the amount of money and energy that athiests expend to disprove the existence of something they don’t believe in?" and someone comments that if they have to take down their crosses and so on because of arguments that they're imposing their faith on others, doesn't this amount to the same thing?

Evolution. Atheism. Get it?

Varieties of irreligious experience
"There are many ways not to believe. Jonathan Rée on the evoluton of atheist thought"
There's lots of wordplay just in the title and sub-header...

More lunacy

Atheist group to rip Bible pages in H.B. Saturday
What they're really saying is

'We, too, can make a fuss to generate publicity for our position because we disagree with other people and the world is really run on sound bites. Oh, and we think we're important too! And we l-o-v-e Thomas Jefferson, one of our founding fathers, because he was brilliant enough to delete all that stuff from the bible. He kept slaves, but we'll gloss over that.'

Or something like that.

All I can say

is that it's sure a good thing that God believes in him...

Magician Penn Jillette Says 'God, No!' To Religion

(Just kidding. )

No matter

what issue 'rationalists' and 'people of reason' look at, they always come down to trying to explain away religion. Always.

A Trick of the Mind

"Looking for patterns in life and then infusing them with meaning, from alien intervention to federal conspiracy."
He forgot to mention religion...

I would have thought

initially, that this was done as a joke.

Cars 2 (review)

If you read the comments, apparently it wasn't.

Paranoia seems to run rampant among angry advanced atheists...

An interesting story

The Satanist on the path to sainthood

"Angelo Stagnaro visits the resting place of Blessed Bartolo Longo, the turbulent occultist who become a champion of the rosary"
There's no question that the most important battle in our lives is a spiritual one...

Why?

Heaven for Atheists

"What happens when you put the brain into circumstances it doesn't naturally have to deal with - temperatures so cold, no chemical activity can take place - and then try to bring it back into normal conditions?"
Of course, a really big issue just touched on in the article is what makes anyone think that the future will be any place we'll want to be brought back into? While they may mock religious believers and their belief in an afterlife, any hope of trying to prolong life, or to live into the future in this world, is fraught with terrifying concerns...

Easter is over for this year

but you might bookmark it for next year...just as a reminder.

This Easter, try to avoid the Gospel of Grayling

"The underlying message of the New Atheists’ ‘secular bibles’ is far more soul-destroying than anything in the original Good Book."

This seems

like the kind of lunacy that is so prevalent in our Western culture. 'They have one, so we demand one as well. You can't discriminate!'

Soldiers push for a chaplain for atheists

So, instead of Chaplains being for different faith groups, now they have to be for lack-of-faith groups? Why not just appoint a person to be a counsellor/social convenor? I didn't know that atheism was a faith. It's very weird...

(I can hear not-prayer services now:
'Creator - who doesn't exist - send your blessings - which are imaginary - upon us so that we, humble servants of reason, can effect your non-existant will upon this earth. Or not. Amen.')

I'm praying for him

Facing Death, Christopher Hitchens Affirms Atheism

I pray for grace in abundance for Mr. Hitchens, and that in some way his heart may be moved by grace which would allow the touch of the Creator's hand on his heart. There is always hope, that unending (and often irritating) gift of the believer...

He may very well be

but blowing your own horn doesn't help prove it! (I know, I know - he's a comdedian!)

Atheist Ricky Gervais – A Better Christian than Christians?

"Are atheists better Christians than Christians are today? Famous comedian and English actor Ricky Gervais likes to think so."
I do like the quote from Gandhi, though, and it's very likely true in many cases (the British 'Christians' in India comes to mind)...

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians"
Sadly, we very often don't do a good job of being Christ-like, not just because we're human, fallible sinners, but because we don't try, we don't want to be...
