This isn't surprising

Not so fast: Ramadan sees rise in binge eating and A&E cases

Mixing modern fast food with very serious fasting seems to be a really unhealthy idea. I wouldn't doubt it. The Ramadan fasts are really serious, so I expect the food that should be eaten after sundown should be better than fast food, and one should eat somewhere where they're not encouraged to 'biggie size' something...

I believe

in miracles and in angels. I'm not overly fond of pink t-shirts, though.

Reason for hope?

Testing a Drug That May Stop Alzheimer’s Before It Starts

We can live in hope that this will be beneficial, but, given that Alzheimer's is really only able to be definitely diagnosed post-mortem, will we know for certain? And then how will we know who may possibly develop Alzheimers? Will evenyone take this drug then? And then what about long term effects if it doesn initially turn out to be beneficial? And then... and then... and then...

Amazing

Supreme Court questions validity of Obama healthcare law

I will forever be amazed at a country that wants healthcare only if a person can afford it, and fights tooth and nail against a system that would provide healthcare for everyone.

(Mind you, watch closely in Canada, as that's the direction the conservative element in politics is trying to steer things, they're just not being blatant about it...)

A story about awareness

which might just include an angel...

Message from an angel

There are lots of things to consider, but I think angels are more active in our world than we think (And I'm not one of those angel folk who believe in them but can't seem to believe in God somehow. I do try to keep angels in their proper place in my mind and beliefs).

I mean, what more likely a place to see an angel but in a hospital?

Will they be successful?

Premiers look for unity as health talks begin

Looking at the hard-nosed manner in which Mr. Harper is approaching healthcare funding, I'd say it's patently obvious that he's paving the road for for-profit healthcare. Now that he's trying to push the cost of healthcare on the provinces, he'll be able to say that it's not his government causing the problem, it's the provinces.

He's never been a politician. He's only ever been an ideologue business-centric lobbyist, and it really is coming out in how he's trying to 'run' the country. What a farce!

More on American health care

This You Tube is inspiring - not just for its target audience but for those of us trying to keep universal healthcare in Canada

Will Fudeman sings Charlie King's parody of John Lennon's well-known "Imagine"- advocating for universal single payer health care in the United States. John Simon, Colleen Kattau, Tom Sieling and Jon Hilton add musical support. Recorded by Will Russell at Electric Wilburland in Newfield, NY. Ralph Varn filmed and edited the video.

What a wonderful country

Only the U.S. would take a case to their Supreme Court have them decide if 'The Affordable Health Care Act' is legal.

Administration Asks Justices to Rule Quickly on Health Law

What does that tell you? I think mostly that the opponents of the act are more interested in 'The Unaffordable Health Care Act', which isn't written but essentially says 'if they're like to die, them let them do it quickly and decrease the surplus population.'

My opinion?

Media say Pope may resign in April

First of all, I am anything but a 'Vatican insider', so my opinion is just that, my opinion. Secondly, the media has a tendency to blow things out of proportion and get things incredibly wrong, and they certainly don't let that stand in the way of a sensational story.

Having said that, I find it hard to believe that a Pope who holds so strongly to the traditions of the Church and the Papacy would be the first Pope in modern times (if ever, I'm not a papal historian either) to 'retire' before death. Pope Benedict XVI has always followed the more traditional route and the retirement of a pope is not the traditional route, so while he holds the papacy in great regard, as he does everything in the Church, I can't see him retiring unless it becomes a critical necessity. He may look at his predecessor and friend, Pope John Paul II, and think that if he is able to maintain the position despite his health problems, then he can as well (though he does acknowledge the extreme holiness of his predecessor).

Time will tell. My current opinion? Oink, flap, oink, flap...
