A miracle?

Mystery Catholic nun: Bleeds from head, hands while prophesying: Pulls down evil shrines, trees

I'm not questioning the veracity of the claims as I know nothing of the individuals involved in this news story. I do wonder why the vast majority of instances of stigmata occur to women rather than men. I know, the first stigmatic that we know of was St. Francis, and the most famous is St. Padre Pio, but other than that, I don't know of any men. All the instances I read of are of women, often nuns. I'm just wondering, that's all...

I believe

in miracles and in angels. I'm not overly fond of pink t-shirts, though.

Miracle or medicine? A throat cancer patient's life-changing encounter

We'll never know what it was because he has already receiving treatment. Still, God heals through that, too. It could have been an angel. I'm surprised that God didn't send a more literate one, though...

Even though

these things can't be explained, I can believe in them.

St. George's Orthodox Church myrrh-seeping icons attract hundreds of believers

The very core of the idea of 'miracle' is the inexplicable nature. Along with it is not just the 'how', but also the 'why'. God doesn't work the way we do. Alas, there have been too many fakers over the years to take things on faith automatically without using a bit of reason.

Still, people are looking for something to pin their hopes on, and faith, also by its nature, very often overrides reason...

Though a cynic

I certainly don't question people's faith, nor do I deny miracles, I just want to know why?

Madonna Mania

"In Ballinspittle I saw an inanimate statue of the Virgin Mary sway from side to side..."
If (bear that word in mind always) God is doing this, why is God doing this? Is God truly affecting hearts? Why does one person see something and another person not? Why doesn't God do something that would be undeniably miraculous and observed by many, the fervent believers as well as the scoffers? I just can't understand that...

How wonderful!

Sheen intercession cited in area boy's alleged miraculous healing

It really doesn't matter if it is ever declared a miracle, the fact is that something miraculous happened. With modern medicine it is really often very hard to say when something is impossible or not. God bless them!

I'm quite happy, too, about the attribution of the event to Archbishop Sheen. For someone who was in the public eye so much he was a humble and gentle man apparently, and certainly an intelligent man with great communication gifts, particularly about our faith...

Well, it's a tabloid

but still, if there's some accuracy to it, a miracle may well have happened.

Harry Potter actress, 13, comes back from the dead after last rites priest puts holy water on her head

People do survive brain haemorrhages, but fewer survive than don't, I think, and AVMs are very difficult. Who knows? God is good, and miracles do happen, so I certainly won't doubt anyone's belief...

I believe

in miracles. And I've had an attraction to Padre Pio for many years, long before the Church acknowledged his sanctity.

Vince Beddia: A man of faith

I found a used book about Padre Pio in a book shop many years ago and his story caught my imagination. What was most appealing was his obedience to his superiors. God blesses those, particularly in religious life who are willing, despite their own desires, to follow closely the orders of the people God has placed in positions of leadership. I don't do well with this, so I find it appealing (in theory).

God bless this gentleman.

A holy, holy man

A Miracle for the Apostle of the Lepers

I really have such an affection for this holy priest. I can't explain it, but I feel drawn to him for some reason, and have for many years. I'm happy that the Church has finally recognized his holiness...

Saving a fabric artist

ChristChurch Cathedral artist tells of miracle survival

I'm sure there are more great stories like this from the tragedy. I only wish there were more for the people who died...

Sigh...

Myrrh Weeping Icon Comes To Bakersfield

Even some of its copies weep myrrh? Have they all been tested by Church authorities? For myself, I'm afraid I'll have to reserve judgement until I hear the Church make a pronouncement on them...

Good grief!

And people bought (pun intended) into this?

No matter how many times

someone says that there are no more secrets, the crowd who look to miracles, visions, secrets and prophecy will ignore that and claim there is more...

Pope's visit to shrine of secrets

The Gnostics aren't the only group who hunger after 'hidden knowledge'. There's that wondering in all of us, and some go to the extreme in the church...

War is brutal

and people fighting wars can be savage...

Icon of soldier beheaded for not taking off his cross gives myrrh in Penza church

The article doesn't say, but the only thing I can think of is that the soldiers who captured him were Muslim. It's the only thing that makes sense.

Can miracles like this still happen? I believe in miracles, while at the same time I admit to being most often skeptical, if only because so many of these 'miracles' turn out to be hoaxes, often perpetrated to make money or for political ends...

Most of us

never get a direct experience with our guardian angel...

It happened to me: My guardian angel saved my life

Or, perhaps, most of us are never consciously aware of our guardian angel. Most people, if pressed, could tell a story of some unusual circumstance which could be the help of one...

Looking for a few good miracles?

The Miracle Hunter

I haven't had time to look at this website in detail, but they do specifically post the various Church documents on apparitions, and they do seem to be dealing with them all in a mature, non-sensational manner that follows Church teaching. It bears more looking at. It's a nice looking website, too...

Alas,

'Mary' fading from window

The faithful apparition watchers will, I'm sure, claim it's because it wasn't properly venerated as a miracle...

I'm not trying

to be impious or anything, but I always take these with a grain of salt...

Relic of St. Mary Magdalene to visit U.S.

It's much like relics of the 'true cross'. I can accept relics from the 13th, 145h, 15th, etc. centuries. The Church was established and was deliberately saving relics at those times, but I struggle with relics from the time of Jesus. I can't believe that anyone, during those times and before the establishment of the structure of the Church, would have thought to save these items because of their connection to someone who was just another person in the life of Jesus or that even the exact location of the grave was known. It would be a miracle...

I think

that science has, and will continue to, throw out various 'explanations' for the survival of the tilma and painting, but this, along with some other things in the world, have no real credible explanation...

Our Lady of Guadalupe ‘completely beyond' scientific explanation, says researcher

It just is, that's all. I believe that God is truly in the miraculous appearance and preservation of it...
