A miracle?

Mystery Catholic nun: Bleeds from head, hands while prophesying: Pulls down evil shrines, trees

I'm not questioning the veracity of the claims as I know nothing of the individuals involved in this news story. I do wonder why the vast majority of instances of stigmata occur to women rather than men. I know, the first stigmatic that we know of was St. Francis, and the most famous is St. Padre Pio, but other than that, I don't know of any men. All the instances I read of are of women, often nuns. I'm just wondering, that's all...

Become a success

You, too, can become a successful writer in a niche market!

Vatican reprimand sends American nun’s book up bestseller lists

Just get the Vatican to condemn your book and you're off to the races!

Seriously, some years ago a condemnation or a warning would prevent sincere Catholics from even considering reading a book. Now the Church believes people are more mature and responsible for their faith so it leaves the faithful alone to make up their own minds, but gives them a warning.

Alas, I think that most people still need to be led by the Church, and given more counsel than they get.

"All we like sheep..."

Ummm... no...

American Nuns Say Vatican Report Has Caused “Scandal and Pain throughout the Church”

I think the only 'Scandal and Pain' that has been caused has been among the adherents of the nuns group, possibly mostly their leaders. 'The Church' hasn't been affected much at all, really.

And it's a little disengenuous of PBS to post a photo of what looks like a cloistered group of nuns praying when the average member of the group that the Church looked at for the report looks nothing like this. I don't think you'd be able to tell any of them from the average woman on the street.

I want to see this

Benedictine nun who as young actress starred with Elvis returns to film

I've blogged about her before, but in a more general sense. I hope I can find a channel showing this. I wonder if HBO will be selling copies of it, particularly with it's notoriety as an unusual topic?

Speaking of notoriety, she seems (and I'm sure is) very secure in her vocation and in her faith. I certainly hope that this blip in her usual experiences don't hurt her or affect her in a negative way. Lord, bless Mother Dolores...

We need

many more examples of courage and selflessness such as that shown by Sr. Marianne Cope.

Vatican group confirms second miracle attributed to Marianne Cope

In most cases we'll have to look closely around us as so many of these examples will never be declared saints, but they are around us every day, working quietly and courageously. They just don't have religious orders to promote their causes...

It is wonderful, but...

Cloistered nun and former actress to tell story of Hollywood and faith

Reading the list of people to be present to take part in the conference it is interesting to note how many of them are priests or religious. It would be a shame for anyone to lose their vocation by being elevated to a position of celebrity. It's a real risk for these people, I think, and it has happened before...

Nun with gambling addiction stole more than $1m from Catholic school to spend on Atlantic City slot machines

Sadly, this wouldn't have happened in the newer orders that have reverted back to the 'older' type of religious order format. Without oversight, without lines of authority, this is the kind of thing that can happen. Not that there can't be bad things happen in strict convents, but not usually like this...

Awww, this is so nice

Texas nun keeps faith in Rangers, baseball

I'm not into sports myself, but this is a nice, little, slice-o'-life interview. God bless them...

I believe

that this film would be a terrific one to see.

Don't expect to see it at your first-run movie theatres, though...

A saint and a nun

The Sister and the Saint?

I need to do more research on Maria Esperanza. Saints of the 20th Century are rare as the process generally takes so very long (other than in the case of a few special people)...

Incredible!

"For the last 84 years she has spent every day of her life behind the cloistered walls of a convent to the north of Madrid but on Friday Sister Teresita, aged 103, will venture into the world outside – to meet the Pope. "
God bless her - a living example of faithfulness to her vows and to the love of God!

Another saint

An incredibly courageous Franciscan nun.

US nun's cause moves forward with initial ruling on second miracle

The story of Fr. Damien has always amazed me. The courage anyone has who goes to what amounts to an almost positive death sentence is incredible, and I think that the amount of love for God's creation is what intensely intrigues me. At the same time, I wish the stories of these first Nuns who went to Molokai to serve the people there was better known, for exactly the same reason. It's good to hear of people like this...

Good for her!

New Jersey nun fighting to clear Pius XII’s name

Most of the claims that Pope Pius XII didn't do anything for the Jews in Rome seem to come from academics despite the support he has from most other people, including the Jewish community. I think this is just another one of those academic attempts to make a name for themselves and their pet project, and is in line with the current anti-Catholic sentiment in vogue with many people today...

This

will be released on DVD next Tuesday...

Vision

It's going to be a niche DVD and so will not likely ever be on sale everywhere. I'll have to buy it new, I suppose. I've always been an admirer of her works and her life, so it only makes sense. I expect SWMBO will go along quietly with this purchase...

It's very sad

to see a valuable way of life diminishing like this.

Nun shortage forces religious orders to merge

Nuns, in full habits, rosaries clacking and starched wimples rustling, educated me for a good part of my life, taught me to love God and to serve Him, and to love and serve others. Their lives were anything but meaningless - they were filled with the Holy Spirit. I can only offer all of them my good wishes and continued prayers that God's will comes about in religious orders of women...
