I'll proofread it for them. Oops! Correction!

Ottawa curbs ability of green groups to intervene in review process

That should be:

"Ottawa curbs ability of green groups to take part in review process"

I would have thought the Globe & Mail would be better at proofing than that. Oh, well.

You're welcome.

Someone cares

Why an eccentric band of tree lovers is cloning an ancient forest

I found this article froma link from somewhere (it's so easy to get lost on the 'net and not find your way back). It tells about some people who care enough to try and save the earth's biggest, hardiest trees by cloning them. Such good work, really. He started this work after a near-death experience.

Did you know that the believed oldest tree is a California Redwood that they believe is 4,842 years old? Incredible! Even more incredible is that we're all working hard to kill as many as we can. We don't think about that, but our everyday actions are leading to it...

Ideology über alles

ideology über sanity, anyway.

'Radical' groups working against oilsands

"Environment groups 'threaten to hijack' system, natural resources minister says"
See that little speck of dust over there? That's the environmental groups. See that huge mountain over there? That's the big oil companies. And that speck of dust is working against the huge mountain. It'll be UFOs next. Harper is losing it more and more. I mean, the rest of the Conservatives in government can't say anything but the words of der führer, so it has to be Harper who is losing it, trying to create conspiracies to create enemies for the public to consume.

Sadly, the public will generally lap it all up...

Another example

of how we are not fit to be responsible for this earth...

So,

are the reindeer going to have problems running into the exhaust chimneys?

Facebook sets up data centre in Lapland, Sweden
"Facebook is heading to Lapland, lured not by the possibility of seeing Father Christmas but because of the climate."
I wonder, if other companies follow their lead, what will happen to the climate there? Ultimately it must have some effect on it...

See this film!!!!!!!

Debra Winger Launches Controversial Gasland DVD

This is terrifying! I can't use enough exclamation points describing it. It's frightening what the energy companies are doing to people and terrifying that they've bought the governments to the point where the governments make legal for them what is still illegal for you and me. They're killing people to make money. Some things never change...

See this film!!

Alas,

Spotted Handfish: Fish that walk

Another species that humans are doing their best to eliminate, though mainly through ignorance and accident this time, rather than through exploitation (our normal means of raping and pillaging having dominion over God's creation)...

A 'Gentleman Visionary'

The Man of The Trees: Richard St. Barbe Baker

This is a really good website to read about one man's vision and work of replanting the earth.

I originally learned of him when I was creating a website about Saskatoon's cemeteries, and discovered that he was buried in one of them. I've read things of and by him since then, and marvel at his farsightedness, concern, trust, faith and love for the earth and all it's inhabitants. He certainly was a very special individual. This website provides a great portrait of this man and his vision...

While I'm not too certain about a Synod

I have to commend him on the nature of his concerns.

Columban suggests a synod for creation

"The constant push to consume goods in the name of economic growth is destroying the earth..."
That really is the truth!

Alas, a lot of people would consider this too 'new age', particularly the 'subdue the earth' contingent...

It seems just like yesterday,

but did you know that on this date, way back in 1980, Mount St. Helen's erupted?

Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument

It was a Sunday morning in 1980, and it erupted at 8:32 a.m. I note it here because of its historical significance, but also because it seems just like yesterday to me. I can't believe that 31 years have gone by since the event.

Get this book!

The Story of Stuff: How Our Obsession with Stuff Is Trashing the Planet, Our Communities, and Our Health-and a Vision for Change

This is such an important book that I think everyone should read it. I linked directly to the Amazon.ca site for it in hardcover, but it is available in paperback now as well. This isn't any kind of through-link that pays me a fee if you use it. I get nothing. I just think it's so important that more people read this book and become converts, so to speak, to change. I bought my copy at Coles, as a remainder, for about 7 or 8 dollars, so it doesn't have to be expensive. Perhaps see if your library has it. Just read it!

Fascinating!

An older article, but still very interesting.

Can This Fruit Be Saved?

"The banana as we know it is on a crash course toward extinction. For scientists, the battle to resuscitate the world's favorite fruit has begun—a race against time that just may be too late to win"

I won't blog tomorrow

Good Friday outweighs the Earth Day in my life, but it isn't a bad thing to remember Earth Day everyday, and live like it means something...
