Do you think

that it may just be a convenient way for the male ruling class to keep a hold on their power?

It's a new era in Israel

But some people want to keep it in another era, the era of the Temple...

When women and girls are the enemy

"
Gender is the new battleground as ultra-orthodox Jews try to impose their conservative values in Israel, writes Ruth Pollard in Jerusalem."
Fanatics are fanatics are fanatics, and they all end up using the same tactics. Life may be sacred for these people, but property certainly isn't...

It continues...

Netherlands to ban the burka

"Holland is to become the latest European country to ban the burka, despite the fact that fewer than 100 Dutch women are thought to wear the face-covering Islamic dress."

In some ways this is understandable, particularly from a security perspective. Given the number of people mentioned in the article who actually wear it, they may have felt safe instituting this sort of legislation.

Islam is the author of this misfortune, without a doubt. Of course, they could just pass a law that anyone wearing a burka also had to wear eyeshadow, lash thickener, rouge and other bits of female makeup. That would be fun to see - all those male Muslim terrorists standing for mugshots made up like Mae West!

Partly correct

Dominionism Isn’t Just an Evangelical Thing

"Everybody knows the Catholic Church is very preoccupied with the body, particularly the female body."
Only partly true because of the abortion issue. The truth is, as Pope John Paul II's 'Theology of the Body' outlines, that it is all humans, male and female, that are now a serious preoccupation of the Catholic Church. The media's (and people in general) focus on women's issues makes the female body the most talked about. There's not a lot of focus by the media on 'men's issues', but the Church doesn't ignore them...

On this day in history...

...in 1899 Pearl Hart robbed a stagecoach.

Pearl Hart

Pearl Hart was no ordinary wild West stagecoach robber. Pearl Hart was a woman.

She has a second claim to fame. Pearl Hart was born around 1971, in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada!

Not everyone from Lindsay is a robber, or robber baron, or anything like that, mind you...

A special today,

from The Art of Manliness, is

3 Guitar Chords Every Man Should Know

You do know that "...chicks dig guys who play guitar." didn't you? Well, according to this website they do. But take a moment to see how you can play pretty much anything (escept Taylor Swift songs) with these 3 chords. Just remember though, if you're going to let the guitar buck stop with you, you'll need to know this minimum of chords, you'll need to be able to put them together to make a song, and, unless everyone else sings without your lead, you should be able to remember the lyrics, too. (And if your spouse's sister is around, she can play accordian...)

So,

they're starting to recognize something?

Edith Stein conference explores dignity of women

This is sort-of a lead up to International Women's Day I guess.

(I usually go to an International Women's Day brunch at the university here, sponsored by the Women & Gender Studies Dept. of the university. I guess I could be considered one of the few token males at the brunch. Turn-around is fair play...)

More Anglicans

will be moving over into the loving arms of Mother Church and the Pope.

Anglicans split over election of lesbian bishop

Along with this, though, if more people, and particularly more married priests, move to the Catholic Church, one has to wonder what effect that will have on Catholicism. An influx of married priests who are in communion with Rome and remain priests and married may bode well for the laws restricting Catholic priests to celibacy. On the other hand, that's really too simplistic and idea. Nothing is simple in the Catholic Church...

As expected

Evangelical Leaders Rebuke Carter for 'Reckless' Discrimination Claims

Poor Mr. Carter. A person of faith who has never had a whiff of scandal around him or his presidency, who has won awards and accolades for his personal involvement in and sacrifices for, others, and none of the world's or religion's leaders seem to like him. I'm sure he must be doing something right, in that case. I guess he's just not submissive enough...
