Shame on us!

Bill Knight: More churchgoers back torture than 'unaffiliated' Americans

Professing Christians are more likely to back the use of torture than non-Christians. Well, isn't that just nice of us? I guess it still leaves room for us to be 'pro-life' then, no? As long as the torture doesn't kill the people we're ok with it? We should be ashamed of ourselves...

So, we know who was in favour of it

Fifth Degree, Second Thoughts

"The best way to get information from a detainee? Rapport, personal trust and . . . manipulation."
So it appears that the people in America who are in favour of torture aren't the trained professionals but the politicians. I'm not surprised. It would seem that some of the attitude behind the pro-torture voice is that of retribution and revenge, neither of which really have a place in intelligence-gathering (without bringing in the 'ethics' debate)...

Thanks to Mark Shea for the link.

wonderful post by the ever interesting, ever cogent and intelligent, Mark P. Shea. (You might think it's because I agree with him, but, no, he really is all that, all by himself, even if I disagree with him - which I must admit is seldom...)

Rush Limbaugh and the Right's Tortured Conscience

The prisoners in Abu Ghraib aren't the only things tortured. So are consciences, and logic...

I don't listen to him, but it must also be torture to listen to Rush Limbaugh. A drug addict who criminally obtained his drug of choice is now the GOP's spokesperson, figurehead and leader. The poor, honest Republicans must hide their faces at public events, and deny their party affiliation...

(Read the comments, as well. As always, ever entertaining...)

I would never have found on my own. Thanks, Mr. Shea...

Catholic Teaching is Against Abortion and Against Torture Priest Says as Torture Debate Continues

It's tough to figure out

Survey: Support for terror suspect torture differs among the faithful

"More than half of people who attend services at least once a week -- 54 percent -- said the use of torture against suspected terrorists is "often" or "sometimes" justified."
