Public service? What's public service?

Sorry, older folks, but by some business strategies, you're obsolete

It seems that it's service for young people, increasingly by young people. While there are some very good younger people out there, the internet and computer technology has created a generation gap much wider than ever existed before. And it always comes down to the bottom line for businesses - they need to make record profits every year for some reason. Maybe it's to be able to give their executives multi-million dollar bonuses or something...

I'm tired of this

Mazomanie church nixes altar girls

Without taking sides on this particular issue, I can only say that I'm tired of the immediate screams of discrimination whenever something like this happens. If people were really sincere about ending discrimination there are many, many organizations out there that discriminate based on class, gender, religion, etc. that they could challenge. But they only scream about something that hurts them and theirs.

Another 'it's all about me' moment.

Just reporting the news

Ministry fined for firing homosexual employee

Two questions: How was the ministry ever able to include an obviously discriminatory condition like that in its conditions of employment, and, did the woman know about this ahead of time and use it to her advantage?

(I admit to a firm grasp of the cynical...)

Interesting

British Court Rules Airline can Censor Cross worn by Employees

I've often wondered how the airlines deal with Sikh daggers, which are a religious article that Sikh males must wear. I know this has been controversial in other places, but I wonder how the airlines deal with it.

What if she wore a really big cross that couldn't be hidden under clothing?

Once again, freedom...

British party calls for end of 300-year-old discriminatory law against nation’s Catholics

While I suspect that the average Catholic never thought much about it, it would still be good to see the end of the discrimination about the religion of the Monarch.

This is becoming more common

in Muslim countries. The Imams have a lot to answer for. They seem to live to enrage the people in order to strengthen them in Islam rather than being truthful or having integrity.

Starbucks? How unsurprising.

It's pretty hard to see anything BUT discrimination when the other employees are allowed to wear symbols of their faith but the one Wiccan employee isn't. While one can never trust news reports to report the whole story (what exactly is 'minor tardiness' for instance) and all the facts still need to come out in court, if the facts are as reported this one Starbucks location is in a pretty indefensible position.
