I have read, as a result of years of interest and study in Jewish studies, a great deal about the Jewish people during the Second World War. My reaction is not any different than most people's, I suspect, but I can't help but think of the courage of so many people, and about the brutality and inhumanity of others. It's something we can never forget...

Quite a good film, Sophie Scholl – The Final Days, was made about her arrest, trial and execution. I was convicted about a lot of my complacency by this film.

Would I have the courage to resist a group like the Nazi Party? Would I have the courage to die like this for a greater cause, in this case for freedom from a corrupt and murdering regime? What would my convictions require me to do? Do I simply mouth platitudes, or am I willing to go to death for them? A very strong film, indeed.

I should also mention that, after seeing the film, I read a fair number of books about 'The White Rose' and the Scholls and others. Such courage in the face of utter brutality and inhumanity!

It doesn't matter the faith, religion, nationality, gender or sexual preference, they were willing to murder anyone who didn't do what they said, felt they threatened them or were simply different. Political and national loyalty becomes and ultimate evil in this case. Thank God for Sister Maria Restituta and others like her who were courageous even to death. Not just the faith, but our world goes on as it does because of people like her...
