I really think

that the people in charge of programming should make sure that this gentleman only speaks into dead microphones when they're not on the air.

Pat Robertson says Alzheimer's makes divorce OK

He has no credibility now, so this won't likely make any difference. 'Just another nutty comment from that Robertson guy...'

None of this

is proving to be very surprising.

Corapi: I won't leave Montana to live with order

Some of the comments are interesting, and slightly more than just the usual 'attack, defend' posts you see.

I think the thing that I always found a bit disconcerting was his lifestyle. I always wondered about his vow of poverty, in the context of his religious order...

I find it odd...

though they're like anyone else, I guess...

Wife of televangelist Benny Hinn files for divorce

I'm amazed at the number of Christian evangelists/televangelists who go through a divorce. In this case I'll be interested in the property split and his finances.

Benny Hinn has been criticized, not just for his 'prosperity gospel', but for his very unusual (and some say heretical) interpretation of Christian teachings. Here's a great book about him: The Confusing World of Benny Hinn

Where does he get this stuff?

Pat Robertson Haiti comments: French view theory with disbelief

I don't even know what to say. Every major disaster is seen as something like this by Pat Robertson because he needs to bolster his belief that God is coming back soon (or at least that the rapture is going to happen) and only the righteous (those who contributed to his television program, I guess) will be saved. And he says these things publicly!

It's unbelievable...

We watched

a film the other night, a documentary, that SWMBO hadn't seen before:

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

Her world was a different world from most of the folks I know (besides simply the money, of course). The world of the evangelical Christian, with televangelists, theme parks and television satellites, is something that is completely foreign to my life. I used to watch Jim and Tammy Faye on television, simply because I was astounded by them and their adherents. I couldn't believe it (might be my prairie Catholicism or something).

Still, SWMBO came away with a completely different picture of Tammy Faye after watching it, which I share. It's a film that bears watching, though some of it is kind of hard to believe, and hard to take. Still, I think it's a different world from ours and I don't think that the guilty parties in that whole scandal were so intentionally criminal. Perhaps just sinful, but I'm not the one to judge that. But, boy, wasn't that Jerry Falwell a slimy piece of work?

Yes

Healing ORU

"In January, the existing board of regents accepted the Greens' deal, which included a proviso that members would vote themselves out of office. Family members and televangelists had heavily inhabited the 23-member board, including John Hagee, Marilyn Hickey, Benny Hinn, Creflo Dollar, and Copeland. Many evangelicals have associated these leaders with prosperity-gospel teaching and lavish lifestyles."

I think it was time for a house-cleaning. (It's amazing that these people can make multi-millions for themselves as prosperity gospel televangelists but not keep this educational institution from its financial woes...)

Speaking of Benny Hinn

as I was yesterday, this is the watchdog group that keeps an eye on these people...

Trinity Foundation

(They also publish The Wittenburg Door, The world's pretty-much-only religious satire magazine... ... A word about The Door)

Parasites

'God bless your credit card'

Kind of makes you think of TV promotions, doesn't it? "Phone now! This offer is only good for two minutes! And for the first 1000 callers we will include this lovely set of Ginsu knives! Call now - God's operators are standing by!"

Today is truly a day of feeling disgusted.

Some are cooperating

But some aren't.

Two Televangelists Making Reforms Amid Financial Probe

"...believes the inquiry is a violation of religious freedom, an invasion of privacy and a threat to the separation of Church and State. He also raised suspicion over Grassley’s targeting of only Pentecostal churches that preach the “prosperity gospel” – a teaching that God wants his followers to be rich both spiritually and materially."
What would this suggest to you about the person making the comments who is also avoiding cooperating?
