SWMBO and I had decided that it was time to get a new car. If we bought something new now, given the fact that our car previous to the one we just traded in lasted 17 years and our current one was 10 years old, we could likely get 10 years from a new one. That will take me past retirement. It will also give me a date at which retirement will not only be possible but desireable. So off we went.
When we decide we want something we're not people to visit 30 dealers and get 30 salespeople vying with each other for our money. We knew what we were looking for, I had terrific service from the dealer we had been dealing with for the past 10 years, they had a model I was interested in, so we went to them and told them to give us the best trade-in they could, and the best price they could on the new car. The fact that they currently have a 0% financing promotion on, and a $1,000 cash back, we feel we got as good a deal as we could anywhere.
You can see, it's blue, in keeping with our painterly range of colours as set by SWMBO. White, black, grey didn't cut it. Red was a bit too flashy for old folks like us. We didn't want an SUV or anything 4x4 as we don't do enough highway driving in the winter to require it and we wanted to get the best gas mileage we could. This car, the Ford Focus, is good on gas, that's for certain. It's also a manual transmission. I haven't regularly driven a manual transmission for 10 years, and I've missed it. They're great in our winters.
So. This is why I didn't blog much over the weekend, or at all yesterday. It all becomes clear...

Very nice :-)
Thank you. I appreciate it. It's not a 4WD SUV, but unlike some people, I don't have the winter highway driving to contend with. It's certainly nice to be back with a standard transmission, though. :-)
