Today, Oct. 4,

is the feast day of the founder of our Order, St. Francis:

St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis has been co-opted by the peace and ecology movements as a symbol of fluffy, love everything peacefulness. In fact, SWMBO and I are taking part in a peace/anti-nuke/mixed-bag-of-concerns (I hate when they do that) march this afternoon that uses our founder as an example of peace, etc. It's not right, as St. Francis was much, much more than that. A great saint and mystic, St. Francis played a very important role in the history of the Church, and fluffy, animal-preaching was just one story about his miracles...
