Ah, well, it's too new for the museum yet. :-)
I've got it stripped down and reformated the drive and reinstalled OS X. Now I've just got it running in the background to see if it starts misbehaving. I'm suspicious of the hard drive, really.
Eventually, yes, fodder for the museum...
