I'm back.I've set up my older iMac 'Bobbin' and and am using it quite contendedly. It was a good computer before I upgraded, and it still is, so I'm still happy. The flat panel is sitting off to the side, still running, while I wait to see if the trouble continues. If it does it may be time for a repair, and while I suspect the HDD, it could be at system board level, too. Whichever it is, I might just use SWMBO's 'Drive In' as another user account. There are still some functions I need that I don't have on the G4, and using an Intel iMac could be nice. Anyway, we'll see what happens...
