On this date, in 1868, Thomas McGee was murdered, the first Canadian politician to be assassinated.
(As a useless aside, SWMBO's family, an old, established Eastern Canadian Catholic family, had a table that Thomas Darcy McGee at ate. They sold it as they did many of their antiques. Alas...)
