I'm glad he got free

Baby elephant stuck in manhole in Thailand

But even though there are likely few other ways this person could make a living, using a baby elephant to panhandle is a sad thing to do to it.

You can't see it in this photo because it's too dark,but in the publication where I first saw it the photograph was lighter and the elephants eyes are wide, and full of what appears to be fear, and there is fluid that would equate to tears running down from his eye. He is, after all, still a baby elephant. I might be anthropomorphizing the creature a bit too much, but having cared for dogs and cats I can tell you that they certainly do experience emotions, and elephants are said to be much more intelligent. So sad...
