Did you know that

"In early 18th-century London, men needed a license in order to "wear" a walking stick. The accessory was a privilege of class as well as a fashion statement."
To say nothing about an aid for walking.

I haven't had time to research this little bit of history, but I got it from the BBC, so who to better trust?
