Remember John Wyndham's Day of the Triffids? Watching the comet won't do you any good. We may not have Triffids springing up all over, but we do have, well, a good example is Republicans. They're well known for not being able to see things that are plain in front of them, so the comet wouldn't hurt them at all. Can you imagine the carnage if they were the only sighted people?
