Thousands Hail Bush in Visit to Albania
Now, read the above article down until you read this:

" On Saturday in Rome, the president agreed that there should be a deadline to end the United Nations talks, saying: “In terms of a deadline, there needs to be one. It needs to happen.”Why are the Albanians hailing President Bush? The most powerful political figure in the world is entertaining the media with his confusion and inability to remember statements of importance that he made only the day before. And the world was worried, after the fact, about President Reagan's Alzheimer's? I wonder what we'll find out about President Bush?
But on Sunday, Mr. Bush tried to backtrack when asked when that deadline might be. “First of all, I don’t think I called for a deadline,” Mr. Bush said, during a press appearance with Mr. Berisha in the courtyard of a government ministry building. He was reminded that he had.
“I did?” he asked, sounding surprised. “What exactly did I say? I said deadline? O.K., yes, then I meant what I said.” The reporters laughed."

This man is disturbing on so many levels, even more so, if that is possible, since last month when something squeaked through with very little fanfare:

In essence, it gives the president the ability to cease control of everything in times of "national emergency". There is no "sundown clause" on this and I live in fear of something that might be considered a "national emergency" might crop up before Shrub leaves office.
I really believe that if this clause is ever invoked, it is a one way trip and the US can kiss good bye whatever hope it has of remaining a republic.
I would have to concur with you on that. A gov't ever more determined to fight 'terror' and a populace ever more frightened by their own gov't _about_ 'terror' is leading more and more definitely to the end of democracy.
