Sad

If any of you out there reading this are children of the sixties (and you know who you are!) this is a very sad event. (Denny Doherty is on the left facing you in the photo below.)

Doherty, Canadian singer in the Mamas and the Papas, dies

Their music and expressive harmonies lightened some of the darkest moments of the sixties and seventies. Mama Cass died in 1974 and John Phillips died in 2001. With Denny Doherty's death Michelle Phillips is the only surviving member of the Mamas and Papas.

I was lucky enough to see Denny live twice - once in the "reformed Mamas and Papas. (Spanky just couldn't carry Cass Elliots vocals) and a couple of years back in "Dream a little Dream." It was a great show. There is only one of the Original Mamas and Papas left, we are down to two Beatles, and somehow Keith Richards keeps going and going and going....

Yes, somehow Mr. Richards is the Energizer Bunny of rock music. As long as there's no palm trees...

I envy you seeing Denny Doherty, though. Really a talented vocalist.
