Do you notice that he is even more WASPish looking than ever?
It's not just a matter of making Jesus macho or muscular, he becomes more and more 'one of our own' who can, by the way, whip the snot out of anyone or anything you throw at him. Take that!
Jesus as male action figure. Why am I not surprised?

I understand that women began to outnumber men in the churches a very long time ago. (I forget when though - I need to look for this information again.)
What next? Too many poor people? Let's make him a rich guy?

As far as women vs. men in the church, if you mean Active men and Active women, women outnumber men in the Catholic Church long ago. I still know men (it's a cultural thing) who only come to church on special occasions. They may drive the family there, but they don't set foot in the church.
