The ants came marching two by two...

Actually, they're booties. Baby booties that SWMBO has been knitting. She's going to be selling them at church for the CWL fundraiser. Aren't they beautiful? They're so cool because, given the type of yarn she's using, there's no way that she can make a matching pair, so people are just going to have to mix and match. They're so colourful and cute! I think it's just a great idea.
Here's another photo:

I was thinking about knitting and knitters yesterday after SWMBO showed me these. I think that knitters have to be the single most generous 'group' of people on the earth. When you think about it, knitters are rarely knitting anything for themselves. They're knitting for their children, their grandchildren, their church, some charity, some auction or some other event. Oh, they knit for themselves too, but, I think that in order to become proficient at the craft they have to knit a fair amount, and that amount is greater than anything they could use themselves, so they knit for others. So, when you think about them as a group, the amount they contribute to others is incredible.

Here's the website of someone (a Canadian, God bless her!) who is a confirmed knitter, and where SWMBO browses regularly:

Yarn Harlot

(If you're a knitter, read her FAQ page on Knitters Without Borders and give it a thought...)

Stephanie Pearl-McPhee - the esteemed "yarn harlot" has wisely observed that a lot of people remark that knitters must have a lot of patience to sit quietly knitting while waiting or travelling. In order to bust that myth she suggests taking their knitting away from them and making them wait without it. Knitting makes you patient - it's meditative.

Ah, but can you be patient and meditative without knitting? That's the real question...
