The Last Western
This is one of the best books I've ever read, deeply moving, serious prophetic in some ways, and filled with humanity. It's getting harder and harder to find copies of it that are in reasonable shape, and harder and harder to find copies of it in general. Family members of the late Mr. Klise have said that there are no plans for it to be republshed at this point. One time when I posted about it I had a lovely email from one of his family members thanking me for my good words. I can't say anything but good things about it. I pray that they do one day publish it again.
I guess that I should note here that it was published in 1974 and I've read it regularly since then. I read it while attending university that year, and it had a momentous effect on my life. Really. I don't say that lightly. I would say that I had some sort of epiphany because of the book, not because of the story exactly, but because of the meaning and the emotion of it as I have interpreted it. It started something in me that has never ended...

I having been reading this painfully beautiful book ever since it was introduced to me in high school. It's been a few years now, but currently in the final stages of formation (Candidacy) with the Secular Franciscan...I was inspired to re-read it once again.
Peace and all good,
