Part of the reason

I haven't watched as many films, I must admit, is that I've been spending time finding interesting publications for my Kindle. While some people complain that the free books available are all old, uninteresting public domain books, that's not true. First, there's a treasure of books on subjects you wouldn't necessarily easily find at bookstores, such as wood-working, book-binding and so on. Then, yes, there are the older, public domain books, but don't forget that a lot of the world's classics fit in that category, so, unless you're someone who believes that nothing written before Douglas Coupland is worth reading you'll be sure to find lots and lots to read. Then there's the books you can buy from Amazon. I have purchased some. Ones that I've always wanted to read, didn't find in the library, but never felt the urge to pay full price for them in the bookstore.

There are sites on the internet, such as Baen Publishing a Science Fiction publisher, who offer part of their catalog free in Kindle/Mobi format as well as others. There is software that will let you export ePub books such as those found on Google, to a format that the Kindle can read. There is a wealth of books out there.

I now have 471 items on my Kindle. Some are of my own creation, some are paid for from Amazon, most are free - some classic, some contemporary - but all that I'm interested in in one way or the other.

The Kindle will never replace books for me. I love the sensory nature of books, the feel, the smell, the weight, it all works together to give me a comfort of some sort. Still, for travelling, how else would you be able to take along a library of 1500 books and never be wanting for something to read?
