While the criminal event was over,

given the way the laws have changed to protect the guilty and punish the innocent, even if it hadn't have been over he still would have found himself in prison...

"A businessman who was jailed for permanently injuring an intruder who attacked him and his family has been freed by the Court of Appeal."
The courts of late seem to think that it's better for an innocent person to be terrorized, injured or killed than to let the innocent protect themselves. It's not fair to the criminals, you see. How are they to defend themselves against violent innocent people?
