"A German computer scientist has published details of the secret code used to protect the conversations of more than 4bn mobile phone users."Instead of just showing the companies involved the results, and proving that they need to change their method he publishes the results. In other words he isn't saying 'this is how insecure it is - I cracked it' he's saying 'this is how insecure it is - I cracked it and showed everyone how, so now you have to change your methods'.
