Sigh... ok,

it was almost an impulse purchase...

The Complete National Geographic on 6 DVD-ROMs

Almost because I hadn't really planned to buy it right away, not an impulse purchase because I've wanted to buy this since it was first released. I was at my computer store of choice last night, talking about getting my iMac serviced, and they had it, so I finally gave in and bought it. It runs under Adobe AIR, which, until now, I didn't realize was such a great graphics application/environment. On SWMBO's 'drive-in' iMac, the digital screen makes it look terrific! Really nice, incredibly readable.

I've had the usual love/hate relationship with National Geographic magazine that most people have had. I love the magazine, they seem somehow too valuable to just throw into the recycling, hospitals don't want them as they get large numbers from people who feel the same way and, if left to accumulate, they take up a huge amount of space. I've had a membership, I've let it lapse, and now I read them in the reading room of the local branch of the public library. If there's a reference I need I copy it. Otherwise, I just don't have room to keep them. Now room isn't an issue.

I hope they come out with yearly supplements. Then I'll never have to get a membership again, and I'll have reading material for any time I want to peruse an interesting, but bulky, source of terrific information and entertainment. Thank you, Nat Geo...
