The Damien I know
I'm sorry if I'm making people tired by posting articles about St. Damien de Veuster but I'm just so taken by his story that I can't read enough about him.
It all started for me with the book by John Farrow, Damien the Leper, when it was first published. The story of his life and sacrifice fascinated me. I was honestly stunned by the love and commitment shown by him, in the face of what was, at the time, a virtual death sentence.
As public interest in his life grew (there was always a certain strong interest within the body of the Catholic Church in his story), there were films and more books, all which contributed to more interest in him and his life, everything finally culminating in his canonization.
So. Two articles in just a short while. Sorry about that. As always, one has the option of ignoring it. That's the beauty of the intertubes...
St. Damien, pray for us...
