All Science Fiction lovers

should take umbrage at her comment (and obviously then, her attitude)...

2012 or Bust!

Here's what she wrote:

"I’m fascinated by science fiction stories, despite my age (over 13) and gender."
Her implication is, of course, that a) women don't enjoy science fiction (a fallacy disproven by the many women who purchase science fiction books, magazines, comics and graphic novels, and b) that only people 13 and under (consequently, immature young males) enjoy science fiction. A prime example of how to offend a certain segment your readers in your first paragraph.

Not to mention her grammar! I know what she's trying to say when she writes "Why give credence to ideas you contempt?", but how do you 'contempt' something? She seems to be trying to maintain a snarky, twenty/thirty-something mockery of things she disagrees with or 'contempts'. I know from the little bio that she is on the editorial staff of the New Yorker, but if this is the quality of the writing that they're moving toward my admiration for the magazine has dropped greatly...
