When Churches Close
The loss of religious items from closing churches might have turned around in recent years, but in the 1970s it was awful. Religious art and statuary from churches that were trying to be 'modern' ended up in landfills all over. A friend of mine stopped a load of statues from a church going to a landfill. Now he has a rather large St. Patrick in his living room, another large saint in his hallway landing going upstairs and I don't know how many more all over the place.
