The Virgin Mary's sacrament: the Scapular
"Wearing the Scapular is an ancient tradition, conferring graces upon those who bear it."I was attracted to this headline by the use of the word 'sacrament' in it. It's not necessarily a good word to use to a Catholic audience to which the word 'sacrament' means something particular.
This website, Confraternity of the Brown Scapular, goes a good way to dispel the pious sentimentality of the first. It's most important statement is:
"The Scapular is not a magical charm for protection or an automatic guarantee of salvation. It is a sign of Christian faith & commitment."Amen!
