Sen. Ted Kennedy's right to a Catholic funeral
The letter of the law is being called upon to almost say that unless he made a public, international radio broadcast from his deathbed totally repudiating any of his stands that the legalists consider against Catholic teaching, then he can't receive a Catholic funeral. What must it be like to have such a shriveled, dried up heart? I've read something like this before, in one of my favourite books: "If they would rather die," said Scrooge, "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population." I can just hear their words of consolation to the family: "I'm sorry for your loss. Too bad he's in Hell."
Lord, please protect us from those to whom you speak directly.
