It sounds interesting

Alger Hiss and the Battle for History

Without reading it I can't agree or disagree with the review, though. I've always been fascinated by the history and tragedy of this period of American history, by the extremes of the McCarthy era, of the Julius and Ethel Rosenberg trial and the Hiss case. Somehow, the American government always has to have an enemy who threatens them. This, in some way, justifies their existence and their political and legal systems, their way of life. If there is ever a time without a perceived threat, I'm sure the CIA or some other clandestine organization will be brought in to create one...
