I don't believe

in the death penalty, anywhere or at any time.

China: Death sentence over tainted milk

You do have to admit that there's a possibility that others will think twice before doing something like this. (Yes, yes, I know that some studies show blah, blah, blah... It still just makes sense.) I'm not advocating death sentences, but life imprisonment that actually meant life could dissuade people from doing it again. Normally, in the U.S., they'd get something like 8 years with time off for time in remand and time off for good behaviour. In Canada they'd get twice the time off for time in remand...
