Well, it's probably because

he doesn't have any winter-coated stoats that he loves...

Cat-loving Pope urged to stop wearing fur

""The pope has a cat he loves a lot, so why doesn't he use it for one of his capes?" wrote one of the petitioners..."
Anyway, I sympathise with the people who started this, I truly do. I feel badly every time I pass by a Richardson's Ground Squirrel or a bird that's been hit by a car. There's the impact we're having on the environment again. Still, if our ancestors hadn't been able to wear fur and leather we wouldn't be here today. I suppose we could switch over to lots of those 'not found in nature' fabrics, but that's no better for the earth either. I just don't know.

I've always watched to see what vegitarians, vegans and animal rights people wear on their feet. It seems to be that we pick our examples of things we fight based on their convenience to us. They really don't think the leather that went into those Birkenstocks, Mephistos or Doc Martins really came from cows that died natural deaths, do they?
