Superhero fans, Hollywood execs flock to Comic-Con
I mean no offense, but no one really needs this...
Not from adults, and not any day but Hallowe'en, at least.

Now, for no reason at all (except, perhaps, to include one of my favourite graphics on the page), my take on 'Comic-based' films:
I've always enjoyed films that are based on comics. I like Tim Burton's Batman, and I like Batman Begins. I"m haven't seen the sequel yet but people are really liking it. I loved the first Hellboy film, and the second seems to be headed the way of a major hit, too (mainly because of Guillermo del Toro's take on the whole thing. He's a terrific director, and apparently he's really let loose in the sequel.) Daredevil was ok, and Elektra was better than people gave it credit for, in my opinion. Spawn was ok, too. I haven't seen Ghost Rider yet. It came and disappeared into DVD world very quickly, so I fear it didn't do well with the critics. I even think Tank Girl is better than the critics have given it credit for. I think the biggest problem is that some people can't seem to realize that these things are based on comics and, as such, need even a bigger stretch of imagination. Like most people I won't hesitate to criticize bad direction or editing (see Howard the Duck, for instance) but when I hear people (who argue about how something can't possibly work on the Enterprise because such-and-such a system wouldn't allow it, and Scotty obviously knew that) criticize a film because it wasn't believable enough, I have to stop and ask what it is they want to make them believe in underground humanoid kangaroo creatures.
Just my $.02. I tend to be more lenient and forgiving about films than a lot of people. And special effects for the sake of special effects don't do much for me...
Again, worth $.02...
