And...

how did he mean the comment?

"Yes, I remember!" bellowed the host, Lino Rulli, the Catholic guy of the show’s title. "Mike the Adulterer! O.K., Mike. Are you ready to play ‘Let’s Make a Catholic Deal’?"
For Catholics, an On-Air Mix of Sacred and Silly

Does he know the fellow well enough to joke with him, or is he serious and sarcastic, like one of his idols, Howard Stern? If b.), how is that being Catholic? I'm not sure that I'd buy a Sirius subscription to get this channel based on this article alone...

Howard Stern is not one of Lino Rulli's "idols." He often says that he doesn't agree with everything Stern does on his show.

You might want to check out this clip on YouTube of Lino addressing criticism of him for admiring Howard Stern:

Yes, perhaps 'idol' was too strong a word. None-the-less, admiration is a fairly stong position to take regarding someone like Mr. Stern. Thanks for your comment!

Like it or not Howard was and is a talented radio personality. I may not like the life style of everyone of my baseball, football and hockey heroes but I sure respect and appreciate their work on the field.

Catholics need tp put out a good product. Lino is doing just that along with others at the Catholic Channel.

I'll be the first to admit that Lino's admiration of Howard Stern baffles me. I used to listen to Stern in the early 1980s and he was pretty entertaining then, but he now goes way too far for my taste. He is now downright disgusting in my opinion.

But that doesn't lessen my admiration for Lino and the impact he is having on Catholic media. His widespread appeal is opening up the Catholic faith to a host of people who otherwise would probably be apathetic to religion.

You don't have to listen to The Catholic Guy for long before you'll hear a litany of listeners say Lino has prompted them to return to or join the Church, and you can't beat that with a stick!

Non Catholic Channel listeners, as well, would be surprised at how many people call or email Lino Rulli telling him that they bought Sirius radio for Howard Stern but now either exclusively or almost exclusively listen to The Catholic Channel!

If I might use a cheesy, over-used cliche, God does work in mysterious ways!

since i've begun listening to Lino's show, i've been going to confession more regularly.

i used to listen to "blue collar comedy" on my drive home -- now i listen to "the catholic guy show" and know about things such as the Council of Nicea, PJP II, St. Paul, etc.

You asked "Does he know the fellow well enough to joke with him?"
No, but he knows how to joke well enough to sincerely convey fellowship to him. (And the rest of us)

An then with the "Or is he serious and sarcastic?"
Sarcasm is sometime considered a gigantic character defect; but it is humor's kindling wood, especially when having to persevere through some if life's tough stuff. For example, learning can be very difficult for some of us, so sarcasm can help teach.

With the big one for last you went with the colloquial "How is that being Catholic?" Ask Igantious of Antioch; he first used the term in a communication to the Smyrnaeans about 1900 years ago!

God Love You!
