After centuries of being taken advantage of by other countries is it any wonder that the people turn to someone who promises to help them? These things happen for a reason, they are caused by historical events, many of which are the responsibility of one or two specific countries.
They shouldn't complain about it. It's pretty much inevitable, eventually...
