INTRENCHED MINERS BATTLE WITH TROOPS; Force Under Gen. Bell Ambushed in a Canyon.

In 1904, the military is sent to deal with a strike by the Western Federation of Miners in Colorado. I don't generally link directly to .pdf files, but the link below is to the article in the NY TImes about this particular military event. (Remember that this is being reported by the press during a time when the media was not at all sympathetic to unions.)

There's been a lot of violence, by both sides, associated with union activity throughout history. Alas, most of the power, and consequently the violence, has been on the part of business owners. More workers have died or been injured due to violent acts on the part of business than vice-versa...
