Individuals, and a certain part of the bureaucracy, were heroic and determined in their fight against Communism, but the Church is comprised of individuals and like any group has both good and bad. Some Catholic priests supported and collaborated with the Nazis (this reference doesn't invoke Godwin's Law, I'm making a legitimate point not an analogy!) but that doesn't mean that every priest nor, indeed, the Catholic Church itself, acted in the same way. Once again individuals and the media are reporting something by sensationalizing it.
