The Most Inspiring Person of the Year - 2006
BeliefNet has made a very good choice this year. The Amish community of Nickel Mines, Pa. responded to the murder of some of their children in a way that our society can only shake our collective heads at. Instead of crying, screaming vengeance, seeking to place blame and demanding compensation (most usually monetary, strangely) as most members of Western society would do, they chose to continue to live quietly and to live forgivingly - qualities that seem to be missing in most of the world. These people stand as an example of forgiving "not seven times, but seventy-seven times.", a testament to the radical nature of following God's Word. The Lord bless them all.

I don't understand the monetary compensation either. It seems as though they would place a dollar value on everything, even those things that are beyond price.
